Scientific name: Iris edomensis |
|
|
It blooms in WINTER!! Unlike
most irises that bloom in the springtime, Edom Iris, a desert species that
grows in Edom in Jordan, blooms during January and February. You can find
this plant ONLY in Jordan, probably most frequent in Edom, which gave the
plant its name. Edom, which was given to Edom, and his descendents, according
to the Genesis, is a mountainous country South of Jordan. It has beautiful,
scarlet-streaked flowers, and is the smallest Iris in Jordan. It is considered
as one of the rare and endangered species of plants in the country. Unlike
black irises, Edom Iris grows solitary and not in groups of flowers (See
Home
Page for Irises). |
